Appleby, Pecos. Pecos Appleby was created by Robert Pornter Koehler (Al Branson) and appeared in Sing a Song of Murder (1941), Murder in the Green Sedan (1942), and Here Come The Dead (1942).
Pecos Appleby is a special investigator for the New Mexico State Police. He is a good old boy who patrols the rural and urban areas of New Mexico in a beat-up Ford. Appleby wears a cowboy hat, speaks casually and with a drawl, and is genial but tough and not to be underestimated. (He’s also a good cop who respects the Dine' (Navajo)). He is “a weather-beaten man of forty-five or fifty, with a cheerful, bony face, and a grip like a vise.”
