Allport, Detective Inspector. Detective Inspector Allport was created by “Francis Everton,” the pseudonym of Francis W. Stokes (George Annesley), and appeared in four novels from 1927 to 1936, beginning with Dalehouse Murder.

Detective Inspector Allport is a member of Scotland Yard. He is “the ugliest man I have ever set eyes on...little and undersized, his pale watery eyes bulged...his nose was bulbous, his mouth slopped all over the place, and his little chin was bunched up into a kind of irregular prominence.” He also has a short temper, a high opinion of himself, and an abrasive way with people, but he is a clever and successful crime-solver.
