Alley Oop. Alley Oop was created by V.T. Hamlin and appeared in the comic strip “Alley Oop” (1933-present).

Alley Oop is a Prehistoric Adventurer. He is a caveman, a native of the prehistoric land of Moo. He is not overly intelligent but always tries to do the right thing. In his own time and place he fights for truth and justice, although this battle is hindered by the rulers of Moo, King Guzzle and Queen Umpateedle. Oop is helped, in Moo, by his girlfriend Oola, his sidekick Foozy, and his faithful mount Dinny, a lovable stegosaurus. Several years after his debut Oop is brought to the 20th century by Dr. Elbert Wonmug, a brilliant scientist who had invented a time machine. Oop and Wonmug then travel throughout human history, meeting Ulysses, Richard the Lion-Hearted, and Cleopatra, fighting in the Trojan War, and even going to the moon, in the first televised moon-landing in all of fiction.

* I've included Alley Oop in the Best of the Encyclopedia category because the strip, put plainly, was great fun. Heroic caveman + dinosaurs + enjoyable world-building + time travel + Trojan War + Richard the Lion-Hearted = big fun from where I come from. "Alley Oop" holds up pretty well and the art, at least during Hamlin's run, is pretty good. "Alley Oop" deserves to be on the Best of page.
