Allain, Pierre. Pierre Allain was created by “Bruce Graeme,” the pseudonym of Graham Montague Jeffries (Blackshirt, Monsieur Blackshirt, Theodore I. Terhune), and appeared in thirteen novels from 1931 to 1943, beginning with Murder of Some Importance.

Pierre Allain is an Inspector with the Parisian Sûreté who often works with Superintendent William Stevens of the English C.I.D. Allain is plump, dark, and likable, but has a quick temper and an easily provoked ego. He prefers complicated and difficult cases which allow him to show off his intellect and which bring him the acclaim he craves.
