Abäba, Yayne. Yayne Abäba was created by the Ethiopian author Mäkonnen Endalkaččäw and appeared in the story “Yayne Abäba” (Arremuňň, 1945).

Yayne Abäba is an Amhara tween who is kidnapped and sold into slavery. She escapes, and after various adventures is reunited with her mother in a monastery. In one sequence she dreams of a microscope which allows her to see the horrifying and awesome “Reality behind mere Appearance.”
