Raven (I). “The Raven - man of mystery - takes the law into is own hands, fighting criminals with their own devices, hijacking their loot and distributing it among the poor and needy. No one knows that the Raven is, in reality, Detective Sergeant Danny Dartin, except his loyal assistant, Mike, and Lola Lash, the daughter of the chief of police.” Dartin is frustrated by criminals who outwit the law or who use the law to escape justice, and so he puts on a costume and goes after those criminals, taking their money and redistributing it to the poor of Gotham. He is aided by Lola Lash, the daughter of NYC's police chief, and by his chauffeur Mike. Raven has no powers, but leaps sprightly and fights well. The Raven’s enemies are corrupt bankers, racketeers, the police (led by Police Chief Lash, who loathes the Raven), and the odd costumed villain such as the Eel.

First Appearance: Sure-Fire Comics #1 (Ace), June 1940. 18 appearances, 1940-1942. Created by Robert Turner and Martin Nodel. Note: First story based on Frederick C. Davis’s “The Sinister Sphere” (Ten Detective Aces, May 1933).
