Carter, Nick. Nick Carter is America’s greatest detective. Trained from childhood to become as great a man as possible, Carter is as strong as it is humanly possible to be and is knowledgeable in every area which might conceivably have to do with crime-solving, from the sciences to the arts. He also uses gadgets, including a coat of bulletproof chain mail and two small pistols held in spring-loaded holsters up each sleeve of his coat. He lives on Madison Avenue and works out of New York City, but he travels around the U.S. and the world on cases. Carter is square-jawed, noble and upright, bronze skinned, resolutely honest, and never gives in to temptation. He is assisted by his adopted son Chick Carter.

First Appearance: Shadow Comics #1 (Street & Smith), 1940. 100+ appearances, 1940-1949. Created by ? Note: This is the comic book version of the long-running dime novel and pulp hero.
