Peril, Johnny. Johnny Peril is an adventurer of a sort, although his exact profession—private eye? Reporter? World-weary existentialist?—is never made clear. Nor is his background and personal history. In his initial appearance, as “Mister Nobody,” he is wanted by the police for a crime he did not commit, although later he is declared innocent. Suffice it to say that he’s an adventurer who tangles with nearly every sort of enemy in nearly every sort of background, from the jungles of the Congo to the concrete jungles of New York to the moon. He has no superpowers, but he’s tough, clever, and skilled, and good enough with knife and gun that he never needs powers. Johnny Peril appears in stories with titles like "The Talking Dog," "The Last Man on Earth," and "The Lady of Mars."
First Appearance: Comic Cavalcade #19 (DC), Feb-Mar 1947. 34 appearances, 1947-1953. Created by Howard Purcell.
