Carson, Blaze. Dave Carson is a young cattleman who is wounded in a gunfight, kills his opponent, and for his pains is handed a marshall’s star and the Gun of Billy the Kid. The Gun changes Carson into a “grim, ruthless killing machine.” But after committing a crime he is wounded and forces himself to throw away the “sinister, ugly, mocking thing.” He rides south to Texas and becomes a town sheriff, proceeding to do the usual good deeds with the help of his horse Midnight. He appears in stories with titles like “Powdersmoke Showdown!” “Death Deals the High Card,” and “Justice Rides the Range!”
