Black Pirate. Jon Valor, an English nobleman with a marked resemblance to Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks, brings together a likable band of Jolly Jack Tars and prowls the seas of the late 16th century as the Black Pirate, the scourge of Spaniards and evildoers everywhere. His opponents tend to be other pirates, with names like Captain Ruff, Lu Chan, the Queen of the Seas, and Captain Gore, although there are adventures in Africa (against the albino High Priestess of Ora), against the Spanish Armada, and even in Atlantis. He appears in stories with titles like “The Albino Priestess,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” and “The Lost Colony of Virginia.”

First Appearance: Action Comics #23 (DC), Apr 1940. 80 appearances, 1940-1948. Created by Sheldon Moldoff and ?
