The Stanley Steamer

The Stanley Rocket, which hit 127 mph in 1906.

Courtesy of the Steam Car Club of Great Britain, here’s a good long article (from, of all places, Wooden Canoe, the journal of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association) about Fred Marriott’s Stanley Rocket. The Rocket was a canoe on wheels, powered by a steam engine, and in 1906 it hit 127 miles per hour. Its story is a neat one.
